Ladder damage

At first glance, the damage looks to be minor. I thought I would be able to simply straighten the vertical tubing. I decided that it would be easier to straighten the bent part if I removed the step. That turned out to be wishful thinking.
Unfortunately, when the step was removed it was clear that the damage would be beyond my ability to repair it on my own. However, I was able to use a little old fashioned body work to return the bent step to a serviceable condition. But, I had to cut the bad section of vertical tubing and remove it. I was able to reuse the fitting that connected the tubing to the motorhome.
Even though the bottom step was bent a little, it took a slow careful process to return the step to its functional shape. Because the caps that cover the ends of the step were made out of plastic, they conformed to the step ends and quickly looked normal.

As can be seen in the photo, the ladder fix is very visible. It might look better if I took the time to polish the replacement tubing. It may not look as nice as new, but the fix holds my weight. So, I'm happy with my repair that cost me less than $5.
